All my life I have been an endurance athlete and someone who welcomes challenges, confident of conquering anything and everything. But after recently seeing Kerryn McCann lose her battle with breast cancer - someone who I had known, run against, shared experiences and formed a friendship with over more than 20 years, it made me realise how vulnerable we all are – even the fittest of athletes and finest of people. We must live for the moment and do whatever we can to make a difference in this world. Life is full of challenges and what better way to acknowledge and empathise with the incredible challenge and endurance required to fight cancer, than by taking on the positive challenge of such an extreme endurance event. Barry, Ronan, Jasper, Toby and Chris are challenging themselves to endure this event so they can help others meet and beat the challenge of breast cancer. I feel honoured to be involved in this epic run for such a worthwhile cause. I hope many others will get behind and support it as well.”
Jackie Fairweather (nee Gallagher)

Former world champion triathlete and duathlete; Commonwealth Games marathon medallist; and Australian 50km record holder.

Team MultiMarathon.com Wins the 2008 Oxfam Trailwalker

A Team from Multimarathon.com have just finished the Sydney Trailwalker 100km event, one of the events that we had scheduled as a goal when building up the conditioning and the miles for the upcoming run across the Simpson Desert.

Trailwalker is an unbelievable event on many levels as it covers 100kms of some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain across Northern Sydney, has over 2000 participants and raises more than $2,000,000 for Oxfam Australia. An event worth doing in its own right!

Team Multimarathon.com had a really good day in the bush, finishing as a complete team in the time of 14hrs 24mins. This year that was good enough to give them the first place as well, but it really is run as an event and not a race and should been seen in that context. I would say that this being my 7th Oxfam Trailwalker that it is always a hard and long day or so and as such is a fantastic event in which to test your fitness, teamwork and logistics. The very things that will be put to test when we start the Desert Marathons.

A big thanks to our team including our support crew and to the Oxfam Trailwalker team (including the volunteers) who are responsible for putting the event together and making it so special. No doubt I will be back for another one.

Cheers,
toby

Watch out for the Boys in the Pub to Pub Run

The Pub to Pub is the famous Northern Beaches run from Dee Why Beach to Newport Arms.
